My Peruvian Arella is from Libby’s personal herd and there is a very interesting story about her color lineage.
If you talk with established breeders, they will tell you that some of the best silver greys, rose greys and blacks are the result of crossing dominant grey or black alpacas with fawns.
The reality with any herd, large or small, is that this can take generations. With My Peruvian Arella, we have done quite literally
years of background breeding work for you! While no one can guarantee results,
here is the color background on this female: Arella’s grandparents on her dam’s side are CPeruvian Silvina (rose grey/pink) and 6Peruvian Dona Atalia (black).
These two created Azalea, a light fawn female. To add density, fineness and more fleece character, Libby bred Azalea to Jeronimo, a
Peruvian Guellermo son (Jeronimo's dam now has three sons on Magical Farm’s famous Herdsire
Row).
If Libby were to keep My Peruvian Arella, she would breed to her CPeruvian Silvio, a solid silver grey male with NO other colors on his fleece, because when bred to fawn females, he produces silver grey/rose grey/black crias 89% of the time!!
Libby would do this to produce a silver grey/rose grey/black offspring with the density and crimp of a fawn but the color of a grey or black. Another generation of black or grey might be needed to “set the color
genetically”, but then that’s where you come into the equation
- purchase Arella and that decision is yours! |
